Agisoft Metashape Professional Overview

Metashape Professional performs photogrammetric processing of aerial and close-range imagery to produce georeferenced 3D spatial data. Software handles images from RGB, multispectral, thermal, and lidar sensors. Serves surveyors, archaeologists, game developers, and VFX artists who need precise digital reconstructions.

Processing pipeline covers alignment, dense cloud generation, mesh building, texture mapping, and DEM creation. Batch processing automates large datasets. GPU acceleration speeds dense reconstruction.

Supports coordinate systems, control points, and scale bars for accurate georeferencing. Exports to common formats including OBJ, FBX, LAS, GeoTIFF, and KML. Python scripting enables custom workflows.

Key Features

  • Structure-from-motion alignment with automatic camera calibration for multiple camera models
  • Dense point cloud reconstruction using multi-view stereo algorithms with quality control settings
  • Polygon mesh generation with texture atlas creation and color correction tools
  • Digital elevation model and orthomosaic production with customizable resolution and projection
  • Multispectral image processing for vegetation analysis and NDVI calculation
  • Ground control point and check point support with accuracy reporting
  • Network processing for distributed computation across multiple machines
  • Python API for scripting and automation of processing tasks

Installation and Usage Guide

Download installer from button on this page. Run executable file. Installer detects operating system automatically.

Accept license agreement. Choose installation directory or keep default path. Installer copies program files and registers file associations. Process takes 3-5 minutes depending on disk speed.

Launch Metashape after installation completes. Import photos through Workflow menu or drag images into photo pane. Program reads EXIF data for camera information. Add photos shows thumbnails in workspace.

Set coordinate system if working with georeferenced data. Go to Settings, select appropriate projection. Import ground control points from file or mark them manually on photos.

Run Align Photos from Workflow menu. Software detects matching features across images and calculates camera positions. Sparse point cloud appears in model view. Check alignment quality in reference pane.

Build Dense Cloud next. Select quality level based on desired detail versus processing time. High quality produces more points but takes longer. GPU acceleration reduces processing time significantly.

Generate mesh from dense cloud. Choose surface type: arbitrary for objects, height field for terrain. Set face count target. Mesh appears with vertex colors from point cloud data.

Build texture to apply photo colors to mesh. Select texture size and blending mode. Mosaic mode blends multiple photos. Software unwraps mesh and creates texture atlas automatically.

Export finished model through File menu. Choose format based on target application. OBJ for general 3D software, FBX for game engines, LAS for GIS applications. Set coordinate system for georeferenced exports.

Create orthomosaic for top-down imagery. Build DEM first through Workflow menu. Then Build Orthomosaic using DEM as surface. Set pixel size for output resolution. Export as GeoTIFF with embedded georeferencing.

Generate report with processing statistics and accuracy metrics if ground control points were used. Report includes camera calibration parameters, coordinate system information, and error estimates for control and check points.
