Token Json Overview

Token Json is a lightweight desktop utility for developers working with JSON Web Tokens (JWT) in their applications. Designed for rapid token inspection and debugging, it decodes JWT payloads, validates signatures, and displays claims in human-readable format. The tool eliminates manual base64 decoding and copy-paste workflows that slow down authentication troubleshooting.Backend developers and security engineers use this software to verify token structure before deploying auth systems. The interface shows header, payload, and signature segments side-by-side with syntax highlighting. Built-in validation checks token expiration, issuer claims, and audience fields against custom configurations.Standalone operation means no browser extensions or command-line dependencies. Token Json runs entirely offline, keeping sensitive authentication data on your local machine. The tool supports HMAC, RSA, and ECDSA signature algorithms used across modern web frameworks.

Main Features

  • Decode and display JWT header and payload in formatted JSON with syntax coloring
  • Validate token signatures using HMAC SHA-256/384/512, RSA SHA-256/384/512, and ECDSA algorithms
  • Check expiration timestamps and NotBefore claims against system time with timezone conversion
  • Compare multiple tokens side-by-side to identify claim differences during testing
  • Import public keys in PEM format for RSA and ECDSA signature verification
  • Export decoded payloads as formatted JSON files for documentation
  • Search token history to retrieve previously decoded tokens from session cache
  • Generate sample tokens with custom claims for local testing without hitting auth servers

System Requirements and Technical Details

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)

Installation and Basic Usage

Download the installer from the link on this page. Run the executable file and accept the default installation directory when prompted. The setup wizard completes in under 30 seconds.Launch Token Json from the Start menu or desktop shortcut. Paste a JWT string into the main input field at the top of the window. The decoded header appears in the left pane, payload in the center pane, and signature verification status in the right pane. Red indicator means signature verification failed or no secret key provided.Click the key icon in the toolbar to load a secret key for HMAC tokens or a public key file for RSA tokens. The signature panel updates automatically when a valid key is detected. Green checkmark confirms the token signature is valid and has not been tampered with.Use the expiration checker in the bottom status bar to verify the token is still within its valid time window. The tool displays time remaining in hours and minutes if the token is active, or time since expiration if the token is expired. Click the clock icon to adjust timezone settings for accurate expiration calculations.Generate a test token by clicking the plus icon in the toolbar. Enter custom claims in the dialog box using JSON format. Select the signing algorithm from the dropdown menu and provide a secret key. The tool creates a signed token and displays it in the output field for copying into your application's test suite.Export decoded token data by clicking the save icon. Choose JSON format to preserve claim structure for bug reports or CSV format for batch analysis. The exported file includes header fields, all payload claims, and signature verification results with timestamp of when the token was decoded.
